Where Have All the Proofreaders Gone?

I was reading an interview with Neil Diamond (stop snickering, I loooooove Neil Diamond) on the CNN website and I came across this gem:

CNN: For this tour, you've donated all the proceeds from merchandise sales [T-shirts, programs and other souvenir items] to the victims of Hurricane Ikea in Texas. We're talking about a figure that's somewhere in the neighborhood of a million dollars.

Ah yes, Hurricane Ikea. That one wasn't too long ago and how I remember the images flickering aross my TV set. Odd, slightly built Swedish furniture, flying through the air at speeds of 90 miles per hour...

Honestly, every single day I come across so many mistakes like this - in books, magazines, newspapers, on the web, and especially on that annoying news crawl on all the 24 hour cable news stations. In 20 years we're going to have an entirely new version of the English language.
